In this activity, reflect on your reading of Stéphane Lévesque's Thinking Historically in relation to Sam Wineburg's "Historical Thinking and Other Unnatural Acts." Answer the following questions:

  1. To what degree is Lévesque describing a "threshold concept" when he discusses student's difficulties making sense of the past?
  2. Revisit your answer to the first question about Wineburg's conclusions. How is Lévesque's understanding of student learning different from Wineburg's?
  3. Lévesque places greater emphasis on experiential learning than Wineburg. In what ways do you think that experiential learning might lead students to different conclusions about historical evidence?
